Glenda Safonte pittrice italiana contemporanea

I am an artist who uses painting and sculpture as a means to explore and represent the complex emotions of human beings, from fragility to fears, from strength to dreams.

I am self-taught.

I have no rules and I do not follow particular practices.

I have a vision and I strive to realize it.

About me

I live and work in Caltanissetta in a field unrelated to the arts. Although I have had a strong passion for art since childhood, due to life circumstances, I have never pursued any formal artistic education.

I have always admired those who were able to create something beautiful from nothing. At a certain point in my life, I decided to try it myself. With curiosity and determination, I began to delve into painting techniques during my free time in 2015.

I learned to paint as a self-taught artist, and since 2018, I have started participating in exhibitions and competitions both nationally and internationally. In 2021, I became interested in creating sculptures, fascinated by the three-dimensionality of objects.

Through my work as a Social Service officer at the Ministry of Justice, I have the opportunity to daily engage with the depths of the human soul, facing the challenges and difficulties experienced by minors in the criminal justice system that I deal with. Their difficulties and vulnerabilities, successes and failures, fears and dreams, are those of all of us.

Therefore, through my paintings and sculptures, I try to capture these experiences to unveil the universality of human emotions.

My artistic work invites reflection on our complexity and embraces the beauty and strength that resides in each one of us. Through the use of impactful images, I seek to capture the viewer’s attention and explore our shared emotional experiences.

The works I create can be, at times, disturbing, because life itself can be disturbing and painful. However, through the message of my works, I try to lift a veil of hope and encouragement, highlighting our ability to overcome adversities and find the strength to rise again. I am not afraid to explore difficult and taboo emotional territories, hoping to break the chains of ignorance and misunderstanding that often surround negative emotions. It is precisely these negative emotions that often stimulate reactions, challenges, reflections, and change.

Through paintings, some of which are painted with fire, and sculpture, I seek to give shape and life to universal concepts such as freedom, resilience, fragility, and the uniqueness of the human being, the achievement of dreams and goals, and the journey of mankind. All these themes are part of our fragile and wonderful life, and I hope that my works can be a mirror to the soul.

My goal is to celebrate and honor the complexity and beauty of the human journey and to urge the viewer to confront and explore their own emotions, engaging with the complexity of the human experience.
